The MAKE IT COUNT Project was founded by Amy Wynn Brown, who has been a special events planner in Los Angeles for more than twenty years.
The idea started when Amy was talking to Los Angeles Rabbi Steven Leder about the extravagance of today's Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. Rabbi Leder, who presides over Wilshire Boulevard Temple, lamented that all too often we lose sight of the real significance and meaning of the occasion as young Jewish men and women become adults in the eyes of their community. His point was that we need "less Bar and more Mitzvah" in the joyous Jewish tradition.
With this in mind, Amy realized that having young adults make a craft project that could then be donated to needy individuals in the community would be an ideal way to honor the meaning and purpose of Bar/Bat Mitzvah while still being part of the celebration. Hence, the MAKE IT COUNT Project was born.
Interest and support for the project inspired Amy to expand and create MAKE IT COUNT KITS so that these craft packages are available to be shipped to any individual or group that is inspired to MAKE IT COUNT too! See the MAKE IT COUNT KIT page for more information.
3,000 Items have been donated to a variety of charitable organizations.
